Dr. Ambedkar Law College is one of the premier Institutions promote higher education in general and legal education in particular among the poor in general and Buddhist, S.C., S.T. & Other Backward Classes in particular. Shri S. L. Khot was the first Principal to be associated with this College.
People's Education Society, which conducts Dr. Ambedkar College of Law, was founded on 8th July, 1945 by Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, M.A., Ph.D., D.Sc. (London), LL.D. (Columbia), D.Lt. (Osmania), Bar-at-law, People's Education Society derives its inspiration from the teaching and ideals of Lord Buddha.lt believes in the principles of social justice.
It functions for establishing social justice.It's primary aim is to promote higher education among the poorer people in general and Buddhists, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes in particular. According to Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar the object of the People's Education Society is not merely to give education but to give social democracy.
This is what modern India needs and this is what all well-wishers of India must promote. The society is inspired by five great ideals of the founder, The ideal of knowledge, the ideals of compassion, the ideal of democracy, the ideal of equality and the ideal of justice. DR. (H.R.) which has the ISO 9001:2008 mark conferred by ABS Quality Evaluations Certification under the able Directorship of Dr. Krishnkant Madhavi, It goes to the credit of this college that "India Today' magazine ranked this college 10- in India, 3. in Maharashtra & 2-in Mumbai in the survey conducted in the year 2002.
Initially, the college did not receive any grant in aid. Over a period of time the college was conferred with permanent affiliation by the Bar Council of India and the University of Mumbal inter alla for its good work and commitment to education and is also getting grant in and now to promote its ideals. Many dignitaries including his Lordships Shri Chaudhary, Shri Dudat, Shri Saldhana, Shri Shah, Shri Desai of the Hon'ble Bombay High Court and His Lordship Shri Justice Bakshi of the Hon'ble Supreme Court visited our esteerned college.
The college equips the students to face the challenges of life and has instrumental in promoting their careers & giving them necessary boost in life. It also helps in their holistic growth by conducting extra curricular activities like Debates, Elocution competitions, legal aid seminars, mock trials, moot courts, sports and also organizes field trips and court visits for their growth. In order to inculcate "Constitutionalism" among the citizens the college have initiated "The Constitution awaking Campaign" from 26th January 2015.
Even today the College continues to prosper and make progress in leaps & bounds by taking bold initiatives in various areas in the larger interest of the under privileged under the able guidance of I/C. Principal Dr.Yashodhara S.Varale
